To hear Dr. Reggie Broom tell it, he’s got it made. What could be better than working with children all day in an outfit that makes the wildest pajamas look conservative? Sure, he gets a few stares when he strolls through the mall on a lunch break but he’s more concerned about putting your children at ease than blending into the adult population. You won’t find this man in a white coat. This same desire to meet children on their level is reflective of the atmosphere in Dr. Broom’s office. The reception room and clinical areas have an open, spacious feeling decorated with warm, soothing colors that are inviting to children of all ages. Unique toys are provided to capture the interest of your child and uplifting music is played to encourage child and adult alike. Even Dr. Broom’s dental chairs have been specially designed so they are just right for the children he serves. The theme of Noah’s Ark is maintained throughout his office and is exhibited through paintings, cross-stitched works, tapestries and figurines. You just can’t get away from Noah’s Ark in Dr. Broom’s office and you’ll learn why later. Dr. Broom’s greatest asset in treating children is not his office or his most advanced piece of dental equipment. Without a doubt, it is his staff. They are a wonderful group of ladies who have a genuine love for children. Their friendly smiles, gentle ways and patient attitudes are responsible for their success in calming fears and turning frowns into smiles. Dr. Broom grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in Pascagoula. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University in 1979. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry in 1983 where he received a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Because of his love for children he decided to pursue a career that would allow him to devote his life to caring for them. In 1986 he completed a two-year residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, the largest children’s hospital in the United States. During his residency Dr. Broom received extensive specialty training that has proven invaluable in equipping him to provide excellent dental care for infants, children, teens as well as children with special needs. He has been well trained in reducing fear and anxiety in apprehensive patients. After completing his residency, Dr. Broom returned to the coast and established his practice of pediatric dentistry in Gulfport in 1987. His practice is filled with patients from across the Mississippi Gulf Coast as well as from Louisiana and Alabama. Especially rewarding to him is that as his practice has grown he is now beginning to care for the children of his earliest patients. Dr. Broom is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Mississippi Dental Association, the Mississippi Society of Pediatric Dentists, the Gnathos Orthodontic study group and the Department of Surgery at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport. Dr. Broom’s greatest joy is his family. He is married to the former Kathie English of Ocean Springs. They have been married for almost 20 years and have been blessed with three daughters and two sons, all of whom Kathie teaches at home. The boys keep Dr. Broom in shape with backyard football and basketball games, hunting and riding the four wheeler, teaming up to wrestle him and on a more subdued day - golf. The girls keep him cultured with debate tournaments, movies and plays. The Brooms attend church at the First Baptist Church of Biloxi. Dr. Broom also enjoys photography, gardening and reading. Now, back to Noah’s Ark…Dr. Broom selected Noah’s Ark as his logo when he began his practice in 1987 for a number of reasons. The story of Noah and the ark is well known to all ages. Children have a fascination for animals so they find it interesting. The rainbow provides an array of bright colors making it easy to work into the office décor. But the main reason goes deeper than that. The story of Noah’s Ark is one whereby the very Creator of the Universe forgives mankind for his past and offers him hope for the future and proves that He always keeps His promises.
